At Advantage Point Learning we know that every student is a unique individual, with individual needs. Accordingly, we custom tailor our curriculum and lessons for each student we serve. In this manner, our students achieve the maximum results in the minimum amount of time. In fact, our students average nearly two grade levels of improvement after just 40 learning sessions!

Students typically attend 2-4 learning sessions per week, after school. Each learning session is one hour in duration. Our instructors tutor a maximum of six students at one time, with each student working on their own individualized lesson. All work is completed during the learning session and no homework is ever assigned.

The heart of the Advantage Point Learning program is our Academic eXcellence Instructional System (AXIS™) which consists of 4 parts:

1. Identify Needs

The first step is to diagnose the specific needs of the student. We do this by performing a Diagnostic Assessment of academic skills. This process typically takes about three hours and gives the Director a crystal clear picture of exactly which skills the student has already mastered, and which skills need more attention. We call these areas “Skill Gaps.”

2. Individualize Solutions

The next step is to select specific curriculum to address the students Skill Gaps. From our in-house library of over 20,000 lessons, the Director will choose those resources which will best address the gaps identified in the Diagnostic Assessment. During each one-hour learning session, the student will complete 8-10 short lessons, each of which will focus on a Skill Gap.

3. Incentivize Students

At Advantage Point Learning, we strive to make learning enjoyable and fun to guide our students to success. We do this in three ways:

• Advantage Talk
  • Instructors constantly encourage and motivate their students by focusing on what the student does correctly, rather than what is done incorrectly.
    
• Advantage Tokens
  • Each time students complete a lesson they are rewarded with tokens, called "Advantage Points." These tokens can be traded for fun prizes (Advantage Awards) at the end of the learning session.
    
• Advantage Time
  • We finish each learning session with Advantage Time. Much like a “cool down” from physical exercise, Advantage Time allows the student to decompress after a rigorous academic work out. During this period the student has fun interacting with other students and Instructors and selecting prizes from Advantage Awards!

4. Inform Adults

We keep parents informed at every step of student progress. The student’s classroom teacher is also welcome to participate, at parent request. We hold conferences at regular intervals, including after the following specific events:

• Initial Diagnostic Assessment
• Every month
• All Progress Assessments

And, of course, our Directors are available at any other time to speak with you in person or by phone – we even provide you with a cell number so you can get the answers you need, when you need them!
